Broadcasting the vision…
When I was growing up in the 90s, I played games like Madden ’97 and NHL ’96 on my Super Nintendo.
I also watched a lot sports on TV, and I got into the habit of announcing my own virtual games, shouting “TOUCHDOWN” in my empty room when using Drew Bledsoe to throw downfield bombs.
Without realizing it, I was training for a future career.
Those countless hours taught me the rules of the game, but they also taught me how to generate excitement, provide analysis, tell stories, and convey the magnitude of a moment.
In 2013, I was able to turn that passion into a broadcasting career with Lawrence Public Schools.
Along the way, I wrote for the UMass Dartmouth student newspaper and served as a Sports Editor for Patch.com, building the foundation that would eventually lead to becoming the “Voice of the Lancers.”
Today, I handle both play-by-play and color commentary, giving student-athletes their moment in the spotlight while using broadcasting as a creative outlet of my own.
It’s a dream job. Even now, I occasionally have to stop and appreciate the fact that someone pays me to talk sports for hours at a time.
