Promoting the vision…
When you teach at an alternative, public high school, teaching English class becomes much more than standards in a textbook.
It becomes a vehicle for teaching people how to think critically, communicate, and advocate for themselves.
I’ve been teaching the High School Learning Center in Lawrence, Massachusetts since 2011. Along the way I’ve tried to teach my students is about respect for language, developing a sustainable and healthy way of life, and using language skills to develop a fulfilling career.
Throughout my career I’ve been fortunate to receive recognition for my work in Lawrence including Teacher of the Year Rising Star Finalist, Inaugural Teacher Leadership Cabinet, and Sontag Prize Award Winner. I’m grateful for the acclaim, because they reveal my qualities of consistency, resilience, and dedication.
I’m not playing around here. Teaching is in my blood. It’s the family business. Students who realize this will find my instruction the most fruitful.
