Side hustle of the visionary…
When I was growing up in the 90s, I played games like Madden ’97 and NHL ’96 on my Super Nintendo.
I also watched a lot sports on TV, and I got into the habit of announcing my own virtual games, shouting “TOUCHDOWN” in my empty room when using Drew Bledsoe to throw downfield bombs.
Not only did I gain the knowledge of every rule in the rulebook, but I also learned how to generate excitement, provide analysis, and convey magnitude in sports.
Fast forward to 2013 and I was able to parlay these skills into a broadcasting career with Lawrence Public Schools.
I wrote for the UMass Dartmouth student newspaper, and Patch.com as a Sports Editor, bolstering my sports media resume before becoming “Voice of the Lancers”.
As a play-by-play and color commentator simultaneously, I’m proud to give student athletes their moment in the sun while also using broadcasting as a form of self expression.
This is an absolute “dream job” scenario and I still have to pause in awe when I realize I’m getting paid to yap about sports for hours at a time.
